Dr Sharmila

Dr. Sharmila is Author, Medical Entrepreneur, speaker and a woman leader in the healthcare
domain. As Founder and Managing Director of Insperaskills (formerly SEHPL), she heads an
enterprise focused on developing the next generation of healthcare professionals from
underprivileged and other communities through skilling, global learning and leadership
development. She hoists the flag of inspiration for young aspirants from all sections of society
– those who need an accessible, affordable, dependable, professional guide to equip them for
careers of excellence in healthcare, and thereby transform their lives and those of their
families, and register smiles on the faces of patients. This, coupled with the creation of
collaborative global learning opportunities for students within India and outside, puts Dr
Sharmila firmly on her journey towards creating a million smiles.
The organisations supporting her journey include GE Healthcare, Healthcare Sector Skills
Council, TATA Trust, University of Colorado, USA and certain leading medical universities in
India. Dr Sharmila is also currently International Strategic Advisor and Alumni Representative
(India) to University of Colorado (USA) and International Collaborations Consultant to Sri
Ramachandra Medical University (India).
Today she brings smiles to the lives of others, but Dr Sharmila’s own journey has hardly been
a bed of roses. With twists and turns in the early part of her career and in her relationships,
life taught her some hard lessons. Contending with gender roles and expectations, battles of
turf and territory, and constraints in pursuing her passion, she has had her own share of
struggles before discovering her own sweet spot in life.
Dr. Sharmila was honoured at the 70th World Health Assembly, Geneva Switzerland by being
one of 13 women to receive the Heroine of Health Award in May 2017, and the first one from
India. A documentary on her work directed by Emmy Award Winning Director Lisa Russell was
premiered in June 2017. She was also awarded Scholarship by Stanford University & London
School of Tropical Medicine for her outstanding contributions in global health. She was
conferred a Special Recognition Award by the Female Leaders Academy for Medicine and
Entrepreneurship (FAME) at Colombo, Sri Lanka, the Healthcare Excellence Award by IIMLucknow & Med Achievers, and recognised as a top professional in global learning by ABC,
Fox & NBC.
She has co-authored the book “I Miss Understood” along with her teenage daughter Ashile,
with whom she Co Founded Parentteening, Mother and Daughter duo are focused on
Creating a Million Smiles by Empowering Young Leader and have jointly mentored over 8000
plus students over the COIVD Lockdown.
